Takata Airbag Recall – Is your drive test vehicle affected?
Some airbags made by Takata Corporation are being recalled in Australia. One type of airbag, the Takata ‘Alpha’ airbag, poses a significant risk to people inside the vehicle.
From Wednesday 27 March 2019, any vehicle fitted with a Takata alpha airbag cannot be used for a VicRoads drive test. If the vehicle you plan to use for your drive test has a Takata ‘Alpha’ airbag, you’ll need to use a different vehicle, or produce evidence that the defective airbag has been repaired.
To check if your vehicle has a Takata alpha airbag installed, visit ismyairbagsafe.com.au or text Takata to 0487 AIRBAG (247224).
These tests are only available to Victorian learner permit holders.
To take the tests you need to:
You need to bring your learner permit to your appointment. If you're under 21, you also need to bring your completed log book to your drive test.
If you're not eligible, or forget to bring something, you cannot take the test and will forfeit your appointment fee. You'll need to book a new appointment and pay for another appointment.
